Carolyn Anne Gober Scott passed away peacefully at her home on August 31st, 2024.

Carolyn was born January 21, 1937 to her parents, Jewett Timothy Gober (29) and Eva Olive Brumbelow (20).  She was raised at 9 Walnut Street, Aragon, Georgia and attended Rockmart High School, Class of 1954.   Carolyn then moved from the small town of Aragon to Atlanta, to work at Sears and Roebuck.  Soon she grew bored with that job and joined the Marine Corp on April 22, 1955.  Carolyn Gober was officially a United States Marine!  She attended boot camp at Parris Island in Beaufort, South Carolina, and then moved onto Marine Corp School in Brainbridge, Maryland. There, she received an education on secretarial work and how to be a stenographer.  Carolyn then received her orders to report to work at The Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia.  She worked for her commanding officer traveling from Virginia to Washington, D.C. until she decided to come back home.  She was Honorably Discharged from the Marine Corp on April 5th, 1957.

Carolyn waited, not so patiently, for the love of her life to return from the United States Army and married Franklin DeWayne Scott, Sr. in 1958.  Frank and Carolyn had three children, Elizabeth Zoe Scott, Kimberly Irene Scott Ware, and Franklin DeWayne Scott, Jr.  They lived in the Goodyear Village until 1974 when they moved to Lakeview subdivision where Carolyn lived until present day.  Carolyn worked several places while raising these three awesome kids.  She worked at Murata, Nathan Dean Insurance Agency and finally at the Rockmart Post Office.  She thrived in this job because she loved it so much.  She then decided she wanted to return to school and become a Certified Nursing Assistant.  She found that working with the elderly in a nursing home and then being a caregiver was very rewarding.  After retirement, she helped Frank, Jr. raise his children, Franklin DeWayne Scott, III and Caitlin Breann Scott Wright.

Carolyn loved the beach,  and together she and Frank took the family to Florida every Summer for two weeks.  She loved dancing and always enjoyed spending time with our family.  She has her own dance that she is famous for called,  “The Carolyn Dance”!  All you have to do is squat, keep your knees together,  and rock the hips to the beat,  while snapping your fingers.  1950’s music was her favorite, and country music warmed her heart.  She loved an occasional margarita, and every time we took her to the doctor later in life, we stopped by Chilis to treat her to one, okay maybe two;)

Not only was Carolyn a Badass Marine, she kicked Cancers butt in her late 30’s when she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer.  This was a very trying time for her and the family,  but she came out on top and won that battle!  After that, she participated in several walks to raise money for Breast Cancer Research.  In 1983, after 24 years of marriage,  she had to bury her soul mate Frank Scott, Sr., who suffered a massive heart attack at 48.  Losing her husband tragically was by far her biggest struggle, and now she was faced with raising 3 children all alone.  It may be debated, but we all turned out pretty good and trust me, there was no gentle parenting!

Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband, Franklin DeWayne Scott, Sr.; father, Jewett Timothy Gober; and mother, Eva Olive Brumbelow.  Her stepfather, Ed Hayes; sister, Martha Joyce Gober Scott; brother-in-laws, Everett B. Scott (Junior), Charles Edwin Scott; sister-in-law, Marilyn Joyce Wadsworth Scott; great niece, Jill Stegall Gamel Coffman.
