On July 23, Carolyn Sue Budd went to be with her husband, Charlie, who preceded her death on January 31, 1995. She passed away at her home in Rossville, Georgia. Sue was born in Huntington, WV on April 5, 1939, the daughter of Joseph and Gladys Verbage. Joseph passed away when Sue was only five years old. Gladys later married Luther Browning. They moved to Logan County, WV where Sue remained until adulthood.
In the early 1960s, Sue moved to Washington, DC. She began working at the Trailways Bus Company, where she met Charlie Budd. They married and had two children, Andy and Christy. Sue created a welcoming and inviting home that often hosted friends and family. There was always a good meal to be shared.
She began her 20 year career with AT&T in Northern Virginia. In 1994 she transferred to Charlotte, NC, where she worked until she retired in 2004. She lived in Charlotte until 2021 and then relocated to Rossville, GA to live closer to her great-grandchildren.
Sue loved playing all games especially cards, Bunko, and Pokemon GO. She was an avid NASCAR fan, with a major love for Jeff Gordon (2-4, 2-4!) Sue enjoyed listening to Country Music and rock-a-billy, especially Conway Twitty and Elvis.
Sue was affectionately called “Nana” by her family, as well as by countless others who knew and loved her. She was the biggest cheerleader attending sporting events, games, parades,etc...
Sue is survived by two children, Andy Budd of Rossville, GA and Christy (Jon) Kloc of Rossville, GA. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Chris (Elizabeth) Kloc, Joe (Sammy) Kloc, Amber (Rocky) Tomaszewski, Josh Kloc, Kendall Budd, and Caity Kloc and four great-grandchildren: Kiah Kloc, Kidron Kloc, Zofia Tomaszewski, and Asher Kloc.
Sue will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
The visitation will be held 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at Royston Funeral Home in Marshall, VA. A memorial service will begin at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, August 1, 2024, at Royston Funeral Home in Marshall, VA.
