Charlie Vernon Carver, 85, of Ranger passed away Friday, October 20, 2023, following a period of declining health.

Vernon was born at home in Pickens County on May 22, 1938, the son of the late Ervin and Clara Mae Carver. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Gwen Ware Carver, March 31, 2023; two sisters, Eula Parker and Edith Carver; five brothers, Walter, Preston, Don, and Truman Carver.

He attended school in Pickens County until he stopped attending classes to go to work to help the family. He later obtained his GED and went on to be a master surveyor. He was saved at the age of 16 and loved to sing in church. His favorite singing group was The Inspirations whom he has listened to since their beginning. He also served as a deacon for several years. He was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church of Calhoun. He loved the Lord and was ready to go Home. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also loved watching the Atlanta Braves and was slightly disappointed this year. He always had a funny jingle or riddle to tell. He will be greatly missed , but we know where he is.

Survivors include brothers, Deano (Peggy) Carver and Troy (Wanda) Carver; sister, Eva Mae Blackwell; sons, Anthony (Lena) Carver of Ranger and Eric (Sherry) Carver of Plaucheville, Louisiana; daughter, Deborah (Kevin) Thomas of Ranger; grandchildren, Annette (Blake) Cannady, Ben Carver, David (Jen) Carver, Jacob Carver, Georgia Lynn (Trevor) Jones, Brice (Sierra) Rogers, Charity Thomas, Hope Thomas, and Zeke Thomas; great grandchildren, Zane, Emilee, Zac, Vera, Cash, Ava, Flynn, Braxton, Asher, Everett, Olivia, and Elias.

Viewing will be Monday 12-8 pm at the In Their Honor Funeral Home. Funeral will be held at Philadelphia Baptist Church on Tuesday at 2 pm with a viewing an hour before the funeral. Graveside service will be held at the family cemetery.
