Daisy Elizabeth Mikkelsen Finsted

December 19, 1930 – April 30, 2021

Our beloved Daisy went to be with our Lord on Friday, April 30th in the hands of her loving husband of 71 years,  Owen and surrounded by family.  She was loved and adored by all who knew her.  She is predeceased by her mother and father, Iris and Carl Mikkelsen, sister Susan Fusco and daughter Carol Ramsland.  She is survived by her husband Owen, daughters Diane (Andy) DiNoia, Audrey (Arthur) Mackiewicz, Susan (Paul) Robinson, Lisa (Lou) Quievryn, Janet Cooke, son Carl Finsted and son-in-law Bruce Ramsland. She is survived by her loving grandchildren Brandy Flood, Danica (Daniel) Banes, Jack DiNoia, Jason Ramsland, Erica (John) Woodward, Stephen Ramsland, Keith (Mattie) Mackiewicz, Elissa (Brian) Pullman, Matt (Meghan) Robinson, Kevin Robinson, Sean Robinson, Alicia Finsted, Sharon Diltz and Danielle Mowat.  She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren Aubri Woodward, Rebecca Woodward, Olivia Woodward, John Woodward, Aiden Ramsland, Brianna Cooke, Gabriella Banes, Norah Banes, Sloane Mackiewicz, Kennedy Mackiewicz, Calhoun Robinson, and Malakai Reese. She is also survived by her sisters Alice (Ben) Regensburg and Janet Mikkelsen along with her adoring nieces and nephews Gary (Patty) Benz, Iris Benz, Dawn (Scott) Stone, Robin Foglia, Jeffrey Foglia, Tracey Sarcone and Jimmy Sarcone and her cousin Palle (Lyndia) Smidt.

Daisy was born in New York, NY after her mother Iris and father Carl immigrated from Denmark.  She was very proud of her Danish heritage and always said, she was “born in New York but conceived in Denmark”.  She attended A.B. Davis High School in Mount Vernon, NY and met the love of her life, Owen when she became the youngest (then 15) member of the new club “the Sons and Daughters of Denmark”.  She instilled Danish tradition on all of her family hosting large Christmas dinners for many years in New York.  We ate risengrod before dinner, danced around the tree and enjoyed experiencing the love and joy of being part of a large family.

She made friends with everyone she met and enjoyed close friendships with neighbors in the family home in Brewster, NY.  She had the blessing and privilege to retire at 53 and move with Owen to the island of Oahu in Hawaii.  She loved Hawaii – the breezes, the spritzs, the food and the love of the Hawaiian people. They spent their first living in Waikiki and spent the next 15 years of retirement living in the Makaha and Waianae area. She and Owen rode their bikes, played tennis and enjoyed the Hawaiian lifestyle.  There was no place like Hawaii in her eyes.

In 1999, she and Owen made the move from their beloved Hawaii back to the mainland to Leesburg, Florida.  The more grandchildren they had, the more conflicted they were at being so far away. They loved living in Florida and being close to Audrey, Arthur, Keith, Alice and Ben.  And they were just a6-hour drive to Alpharetta, Georgia where some of their other loving grandchildren were growing up.  They ultimately moved to Georgia in September of 2020 and she loved being surrounded by the large Robinson family and was filled with the same love and joy that she gave us as a large family.
