Darlene Byrd Johnson, a bold and compassionate woman whose presence brought strength and grace to everyone she met, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2025, at the age of 86.
Born in Clinton, Tennessee, on November 30, 1938, Darlene was the only child of Robert Ottis and Ruby Mae Byrd, both from Clinton, Tennessee. She carried their values of resilience, integrity, and compassion throughout her life, and built a legacy defined by service, love, and unwavering courage.
Darlene dedicated many years of her life to public service through her work with Fulton County Government. She was known for her confidence, her sharp mind, and her unshakable sense of justice. Colleagues respected her strength and admired her ability to lead with both authority and heart.
She is preceded in death by her 1st. husband, Robert David Montgomery,
Then shared a lifelong partnership with her beloved husband, Raymond Henry Johnson, whose memory remained a guiding light after his passing. Together, they created a home full of love, wisdom, and simple joys.
In recent months, Darlene faced the deep sorrow of losing her oldest son, Gary Lynn Montgomery, though heartbroken, she stood as a pillar for her family, offering love and steadiness in the face of loss. Gary is survived by his wife, Connie, and their dearly loved children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild.
Darlene is also survived by her youngest son, David Glenn Montgomery, and his wife Shelia, and their dearly loved children and grandchildren.
Her pride in her family was evident in every conversation—each generation a testament to her care and strength.
Darlene was a woman of conviction and tenderness, unafraid to speak her truth and always ready to nurture what she loved—whether that was her family, her garden, or the many cats she welcomed into her home. She wouldn't hesitate to help anyone in need, and her generosity, both in spirit and action, left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Darlene's life was a vibrant reflection of her boldness, her warmth, and her enduring devotion to those she held dear.
