He is survived in Death by:

His wife Fay Barber and his children William Ivy Barber, Edward Robert Barber, Kelly Elizabeth Castleberry, Stephen Barber and Erica Bautista, 9 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. 

As a boy, he grew up on Barber Lake (now called Lake George) in Conway FL, just south of Orlando, FL. He worked in the family Orange Groves and enjoyed fishing. The land near his family’s home is now called Barber Park with memorials to the family history of cattle ranching, battling Seminole Indians and the infamous Barber Mizell feud that raged for decades in central Florida after the Civil War. The Barber family is a Florida Pioneer family originally coming to Florida in 1800. He attended Boone High School while his mother was an school secretary for Conway Elementary , and his Father worked for the Orange County Extension service and had his own orange grove. His Uncle, Carl Barber, served as an Orange County Commissioner and his Aunt Dixie Barber served as Supervisor of Elections for Orange County for 40 years. 

He earned his MBA from University of Rochester in 1977 while working for Rochester Telephone. He became a System Analyst for Southern Bell in Atlanta, GA in 1978 and worked there until retirement until 1999. After retirement he worked in the North Georgia area as a real estate agent and owned many residential homes as investment properties. He was a Foster Family for Cobb County, GA with his second wife Jean Barber from 1981-1998 and they fostered 80 children during that time. He served as Treasurer and President for the Sprayberry High School Band of Gold Booster Club from 1992-1995. He settled in the Canton, Georgia area through retirement with his third wife, Fay Barber and regularly attended church during this time. He also served as a substitute teacher for the Cherokee County School System in North Georgia during his retirement. 

His Father’s birthday is December 14 and his grandson Brian Barber, was married on December 14th of the year of his death. 

 

A Memorial Service has been scheduled for Sunday, February 16th from 2-4 PM at the In Their Honor Funeral home in Acworth, GA. The address for In Their Honor is 4671 South Main Street, Acworth, GA 30101.
