George Lloyd Smith was born June 5, 1949 in Green Bay, Wisconsin to Father Lloyd Ernest Smith and Mother Jeanette Ann Vertz. He had 1 brother, Charles and 3 sisters, Catherine, Yvonne & Cindy.
George served in the United States Navy for 8 years. He received a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Saginaw State University in Michigan. After leaving the Navy, he and Linda moved to Michigan where he worked for Consumers Energy and Crane Nuclear, which ultimately brought him to Georgia.
George and Linda Kay PetersenSmith were married for 48 years. They have three sons, Tony, Rob and David. Tony is married to Patsy, they have two children, Maddie and Max and live in Chapel Hill, NC. Rob is married to Heather, they also have two children, Amara and Liam and live in St. Charles, IL. David lives with his life partner, Nueng in Bangkok, Thailand.
George and Linda moved to their dream home here in Jasper three years ago. He died peacefully at home July, 3, 2020. The family has chosen to have a celebration of life in the future when David & Nueng are able to return from Thailand.
The word “cannot” was not a part of George’s vocabulary. Always an engineer at heart, he often enjoyed repairing anything that was broken. He was happy to do it and even more excited to teach his children and/or grandchildren how to fix anything broken.
We know many of you reading this never had the privilege of knowing George. We want you to know you missed a good human. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends. Until tomorrow George.
