Howard Wendell Schoen, 90, of Jasper, Georgia, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, August 15, 2022. He was born on May 14, 1932 to William and Stella Schoen in Miami, Florida. Howard was a trustee and very involved member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Monty Sue Sells and Barbara Jean Scanlon, and the mother of his sons, June S Schoen.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Karen Keller Leach Schoen of Jasper, GA; brother Robert Schoen (Jean) of Greensboro, GA; two sons, Craigen Schoen (Cindy) of Greenville, SC, Mitchell Schoen (Sammie) of Longwood, FL; his grandchildren; Briggs (Liz), Parks, Heath, Austin (Bianca), Brandon, Caitlyn; Karen’s children; Robin Butler (Jeff), Jim Leach, Jane Nales (Michael), Anne Boyd (Terry), and 8 grandchildren.
Howard graduated from Miami Senior High and the University of Miami where he was baseball captain and played second base. In college he was a member of the SAE fraternity. After graduation he served in the United States Army. He worked in the group insurance business with Provident Mutual and US Life for 40 years and was a long serving member in the Maitland Rotary Club. Howard was an accomplished golfer and had a passion for wood working. For 75+ years he played organized baseball/fast-pitch softball/softball becoming a member of the Senior Softball Hall of Fame. In fact, he was still playing golf and softball at 90 years old.
Howard loved people and was interested in everyone he met. He loved to share stories of his life experiences with others. Howard had a great appreciation for life and the Lord’s blessings. He served the Lord and others faithfully.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, August 27, 2022 in the sanctuary at Mt. Zion Baptist Church (Jasper, GA) with Senior Pastor Ben Mock officiating. Visitation will follow the service.
