James A. King Jr. (Jim)
Jim was Born in Dearborn, MI. The second born and the first son to James and Jeanne King. In 1962 The King Family moved to Huntsville, AL where Jim Sr. worked for NASA. As the oldest boy of a family of 8, Jim Jr. quickly took the leadership role of those ‘terrible King boys’. Jim was a typical 60’s boy, riding dirtbikes, being a boy scout and causing mischief whenever possible.
As a gifted athlete, Jim loved playing baseball, football and basketball. But He excelled in swimming, holding a State Record in the Breaststroke.
Jim graduated from Grissom High in 1973 as part of its inaugural class.
In keeping with family tradition of service, and with the war in Viet Nam going on, Jim enlisted in the US Navy becoming a navy corpsman.
After his service Jim enrolled in the University of Alabama (NOT a family tradition).
After graduating Alabama, Jim married and moved to Atlanta GA, to start his family.
Blessed with a daughter, Kathrine (Kate) and son James A. King III (Jake),
Jim settled into his role as “American Dad”.
Jim’s life took a detour after his divorce.
Jim moved to Villa Rica, GA. Jim was known as the neighborhood ‘granddaddy’ and showed his devotion to others through his volunteer work with the Lions club and the American Legion.
Jim is survived by his devoted partner Christy Mealer. (and their dog Buster).
His daughter Kate Dempsey (Nick), son Jake King (Ann) and Sisters Mary Jane King and Margie Dorantes King (Rodrigo) and brother John King (Ok Cha), and his grandchildren Marshall and Elizabeth Dempsey and Parker King. In addition to numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews too many to count.Preceded in Death By His father James A. King Sr., Mother Jeanne A. King Sister Jeannette King Chaney and brother Thomas W. King.
