Jill Marie Wilson Kenny was an amazing woman. She was born in San Diego, CA, raised in Bedford, VA, and lived in many different places throughout her life. She attended Longwood College and transferred to The University of Virginia where she completed the BSN program in nursing.
Due to her immense Patriotism and Sense of Duty, Jill always knew she wanted to join the military in service of her country. While she initially had visions of being in a Coast Guard helicopter as a flight nurse, she instead began a 7 year adventure in the U.S. Air Force as an officer and a nurse. She served from 1992 until 2000 and left honorably as a Captain. Her stations of duty included Lackland Air Force Base (San Antonio, TX), Travis AFB (Fairfield, CA), Lajes Field, Azores (Portuguese island group), and MacDill Air Force Base (Tampa, FL).
Jill spent 27 years as a nurse, with most of it at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, GA in labor and delivery. She considered her fellow nurses and staff as family, and created lifelong friendships with many at Kennestone.
Her passion, however, was her three children. All of her love and devotion to nursing and to the Air Force was surpassed only by her love and devotion for her kids and pets.
Jill is survived by her husband, Kevin Kenny and her three children, Shamus Kenny, Mitchell Kenny and Madissen Kenny. She is also survived by her mother Patricia Copes (Jesse), her father Phillip Wilson (Dee); her brothers Stephen Wilson and Michael Wilson, and step-sister Taylor Sparks Nolan; her grandmother Vernelle Roupe.
Jill had a five year battle with leukemia and eventually graft vs host disease of the lungs, which developed from her leukemia treatments. She fought valiantly and with true grit through her final moments, as a testament to her profound strength and devotion to her family. She was our hero!
