Richard James Leonhardt, a beloved husband, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2025, in Jasper, Georgia, at the age of 72. Born on August 6, 1952, in Guatemala, Richard's spirit was as vibrant as the cultures that surrounded him.

Richard was a Christian first and foremost and loved the Lord. He dedicated his life to hard work and service. Richard proudly served his country in the Air Force, and his sense of duty and honor remained a defining trait throughout his life. His career path began at the Isle of Capri, where he made lasting friendships with colleagues and patrons alike, before moving to Jasper, Georgia, where he worked at IHOP. Known for his strong work ethic and reliability, Richard consistently gave 110% in all that he did. This steadfast dedication earned him the love and respect of those around him, who cherished his warm spirit and unwavering commitment.

Outside of work, Richard had a zest for life that was infectious. One of the most enjoyable aspects of his life was fishing, a pursuit he approached with uncontainable enthusiasm. Many who accompanied him on these adventures will remember the thrill of hearing him excitedly shout, "I got one! I got one!" as he reeled in his catch. These moments, filled with laughter and joy, are memories that his loved ones will carry in their hearts forever.

In addition to fishing, Richard excelled at bowling and found great pleasure in playing card games and board games, particularly Scrabble, with his beloved wife, Gina. His playful nature and competitive spirit made these family gatherings truly special, weaving memories that will live on through the stories shared by those who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Eugenia Leonhardt; his brother, Fred Leonhardt (Kathy); his sisters, Veronica Fuhrman and Rosie Avila (Jim); his brother, Dan Leonhardt (Christy); and a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends who adored him.

Richard was preceded in death by his mother, Ilse Schieber Leonhardt, and his father, William Leonhardt. His legacy of kindness, generosity, and unwavering joy in life's simple pleasures will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
