Shane Allender

On December 16 ^th , 2022, Shane Allender was called to heaven suddenly after a brief illness.

He was born in Jacksonville, FL on January 11, 1947. Everyone who knew Shane was inspired by his love of life, sense of humor, and the warmth he shared with everyone. Shane loved God, this country, and was a great patriot who served in the United States Marine Corp primarily stationed in Vietnam and then Washington DC. Every Marine prides themselves on their duty, mission, and steadfast dedication during and beyond active service. “Once a Marine, always a Marine!” Shane lived this motto to the fullest.

Over five decades ago, Shane married the love of his life, Linda Allender. In September of 2022 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a trip of a lifetime, a month-long adventure traveling through Europe that included a cruise ending in Lisbon.

Shane was known for the generous giving of his time, talents, and love for people. Many family and friends refer to Shane as the most wonderful, caring, and kind man they ever knew. Some even looked to him as a 2nd father for his wisdom and advice, understanding he had an abundance of experience that accrued throughout his lifetime. He cooked his fabulous chocolate pies, bought hundreds of stuffed animals and toys that he and Linda delivered to the Marine Corps “Toys for Tots” drive every Christmas, and shared his appreciation for humanity in everything he did.

Shane cherished the years he spent with Linda, and together shared precious moments with their nieces, nephews and godchildren—always present for their birthday parties, sports events, school, church activities and holidays especially Thanksgiving, as well as their graduations and weddings in the last few years.

Shane revealed in the fellowship and work he did with the VFW Post 10822 Dunwoody Sandy Springs, a nonprofit serving veterans. His efforts were valued in several positions over the years, and he rallied the troops as the Quartermaster before retiring in 2017 to enjoy time with Linda, his family and friends.

They moved from Sandy Springs to Big Canoe in August of 2018. There they found peace, serenity, and a love of nature in their Wrens Nest home. Shane was the best Husband, Uncle, Godparent, Brother, Cousin and Friend. He will be forever Loved, missed and remembered by all who had the good fortune to know him. A service to celebrate his life will be planned at a future time.
