Susan Oxley Gordon

Susan Oxley Gordon, 74, of Newnan, GA passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children on December 20, 2020, at Piedmont Hospital Newnan. She is survived by son Jeff Gordon (Rachel) and daughters Karin Gordon and Jenny Thomas (Joel); grandchildren: Schyler Maxwell, Tucker Thomas, Sawyer Thomas, Madelyn Gordon, Evelyn Gordon, and James Gordon; great granddaughter Stella Maxwell, and her doggie companion Gabby as well as siblings, sisters in law, and nieces and nephew. She also leaves to cherish her memory all the children that were blessed with one of her “Bunny Cakes” over the years.  She is preceded in death by her husband Douglas Gordon, grandson Timothy Thomas, and her parents Dick and Louise Oxley.

Doug and Susan spent many years in Oxford, AL raising their family. Susan never met and stranger and remembered the names of everyone she met. She was involved in multiple ministries of Oxford First United Methodist Church and then found a new church home at Corner Stone United Methodist Church in Newnan. Susan enjoyed and supported Karin, Jeff, and Jenny’s activities over the years, baked goodies for every holiday for those in need, and made many friends as the manager at Oxford Cleaners. Susan realized her first love and true calling was being a grandparent! Being “Nanie” and “Grandma” were her favorite title. There are no words to adequately describe the amazing wife, mother, grandparent, and friend she was, but the hole left behind in her absence is a testament to the mark she leaves behind.

The family is planning a celebration of life service at a future date. Anyone wishing to honor Susan is invited to make a donation in her memory to Cornerstone United Methodist Church, 2956 Sharpsburg McCollum Rd, Newnan, GA 30265; Fairplay Camp School for Boys, 347 Wilderness Trail, Westminster, SC 29693; or the organization of one’s choice .
